Fönebasen Matsuri - Event coverage
Grassroot driftevents will forever be my favorite type of events to attend. Vicious Delicious, Next Level, Makosa Matsuri to name a few.
Last year Eric and Alex hosted the Fönebasen Matsuri for the first time, which is an invite only grassroots event hosted at an old military air base up north in Sweden. Unfortunately I could not attend and caught a huge case of fomo when I saw videos and photos from the event. This year I would not make that same mistake and went a roadtrip together with the guys from Vicious Company some 10h north from the Lardel HQ.
With me living down south I rarely get to meet a lot of the guys from up north which was one of the most exciting things about the event from me, like meeting Daniel and seeing his white S13 again for example. I shot this car back in 2022 when it was freshly painted and on 15”s and I’m looking forward to make a comparison post showcasing the wear and tear these cars gets put up to.
With the track being out in the middle of nowhere there aren’t really any neighbors that can complain, allowing for driving hours running from morning to almost midnight. A ton of driving hours = a ton of photographing hours and many photos to post. I’ll let the photos speak for the vibe of the event themselves and write as little as possible, but I want to than Eric and Alex for putting this event together. They’ve truly done an incredible job.
Seeing your friends out on the track is always a little big more exciting, but not when you see them lock their front wheels in the viewfinder and follow them heading right into a tyre wall…
Luckily the driver was fine and he spent the rest of the weekend straightening the car out, later taking it out for a few extra laps of drifting. What a champ.
With the track being out in the middle of nowhere there aren’t really any neighbors that can complain, allowing for driving hours running from morning to almost midnight. And shooting grassroot driftcars in the sunset is something I’d gladly do again.
Thank you for this time and I can’t wait until the next event!
And thank you for checking out the blog post even though photo media is dead.
